Paste a TikTok link above and press Download: if TikTok stores a higher-quality copy of the video, an extra HD without watermark button (usually H.265) appears next to the regular H.264 file. The HD file is TikTok's own best rendition, not an upscale, so its resolution depends on what the creator uploaded.
How to download a TikTok video in HD
- Copy the video link. In TikTok tap Share → Copy link, or copy the address of the video page on tiktok.com.
- Paste it and press Download. Paste the link into the box at the top of this page.
- Look for the HD button. Choose HD without watermark; the codec is shown in brackets. If there is no HD button, the H.264 file is the best copy available.
Why the HD button is sometimes missing
TikTok stores each video in several versions. For many videos it keeps a higher-bitrate copy, usually encoded with H.265, next to the standard H.264 one; for others – often short, older or low-resolution uploads – there is only one version.
Before showing the HD button, ReelTik checks that TikTok actually delivers that file. If TikTok does not answer for the HD copy within a few seconds, the button is left out rather than giving you a download that fails.
What “HD” means here
The HD file is exactly what TikTok serves as its best copy. It is not upscaled, sharpened or re-encoded by us, so it cannot contain more detail than the creator's upload. A downloader that promises 4K for a video TikTok keeps in a lower resolution would have to invent pixels.
Because H.265 compresses more efficiently than H.264, the HD file is often both sharper and smaller than the regular download.
When the regular H.264 file is the better pick
H.264 plays on practically every phone, computer, TV and editing program. Choose it when you want to send the clip to other people, play it on an older device or a Windows PC without the HEVC extension, or import it into video editing software on a slower computer.
H.264 file vs. HD file
| Without watermark (H.264) | HD without watermark (usually H.265) | |
|---|---|---|
| Available | For every public video | Only when TikTok keeps an HD copy |
| Picture | TikTok's standard copy | TikTok's best copy – usually sharper |
| File size | Standard | Often smaller for the same length |
| Plays on | Every device | iPhone, Mac, most recent Android phones; Windows needs VLC or the HEVC extension |
| Best for | Sharing and editing | Watching and keeping the best quality |
HD download questions
Can I download TikTok videos in 1080p or 4K?
You get the resolution TikTok stores for that video. Many videos are available in HD; if the creator uploaded in a lower resolution, no downloader can make it sharper.
Why is the HD file smaller than the normal one?
HD files are usually encoded with H.265, which needs less data than H.264 for the same picture quality.
Does the HD file have a watermark?
No. Both the HD and the H.264 downloads are without the TikTok watermark.
Why does the HD video not play on my computer?
Windows does not include an H.265 decoder by default. Use VLC, install the HEVC Video Extensions, or download the H.264 file.
Is HD available for photo posts?
Photo posts are saved as images in the full size TikTok stores, so there is no separate HD option for them.
Does HD cost extra?
No. All downloads on ReelTik, including HD, are free.
